Year shown on plot is the first year of the winter season (for example, 1926 is the 1926-1927 winter). Bold line denotes the mean number per year for each station. Years with an * indicate at least one missing month of data. Snows on successive days are treated individually for this plot as opposed to combining them into individual storm events. Official snowfall accumulations over approximately the last 20 years for individual storms in Durham may be lower than actual amounts because measurements are only taken once a day and taken late in the afternoon. This may result in compaction of snow and lower amounts than fresh fallen snow or possibly in missed accumulations from melting or sublimation.
